The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has named Ajit Balakrishnan chairman emeritus and Sanjeev Bikhchandani the new chairman for 2008-09. Balakrishnan, who is the chairman and managing director of Rediff.com, will serve a lifetime role at the IAMAI and head the council of past chairpersons at the association.
Bikhchandani, the founder and chief executive officer of Info Edge (India) Ltd, takes over from J Murugavel, founder and CEO of the Bharatmatrimony Group. Bikhchandani is a successful online entrepreneur and has founded ventures such as Naukri.com, Jeevansaathi.com, 99acres.com and Quadrangle.

“Our immediate step will be to build a committee of online publishers and mobile VAS providers. We would also like to work more closely with industry bodies such as CII, FICCI and NASSCOM,” he said.
Bikhchandani added that the IAMAI plans to create a digital foundation, which will provide training and education to industry professionals and entrepreneurs.
The IAMAI has also appointed Sanjay Aggarwal, general manager, operations, IRCTC, as its vice-chairman. Ratish Nair, co-founder, Interactive Avenues, has been appointed treasurer.
