Headlines Today, an English channel from the India Today Group, is now going to use the online medium to boost its presence beyond India. It has finalised a deal with the US based video search engine, Blinkx.com, under which it will supply videos from Headlines Today to Blinkx.com. Both news and features videos will be supplied in bulk to Blinkx.com on a daily basis.

In an official communiqué, Sanjoy Narayan, chief operating officer, India Today Group Digital, says, “This deal is one of many deriving from the India Today Group’s vision to grow in the online media space. We seek to be available to all our viewers, regardless of geography and medium of access. Being a leader in video search, Blinkx.com is a natural choice for us in the online space.”

Suranga Chandratillake, chief executive officer and founder, Blinkx.com, says, “Current events searches are among the most popular on Blinkx.com and providing our users with content representing all cultures is extremely important to us. We are thrilled to bring Headlines Today to Blinkx.com because it is a news channel that will help bridge India with the rest of the world.”

The India Today Group has not disclosed the commercial details of the deal, but there are indications that it is based on a revenue sharing model.

There are indications that the India Today Group may tie up with other video search engines as well and make the video content of its Hindi news channel, Aaj Tak, also available on Blinkx.com, which is working to make its search available in Indian languages, too.

India Today Group Digital is a division of the India Today Group, which looks after the online presence of offline ventures such as India Today, Business Today, Headlines Today, Aaj Tak and Meow FM.

Blinkx.com has indexed 18 million hours of video and audio content, which include favourite TV moments, news clips, short documentaries, music videos and video blogs.
